Initially, I completed a dissertation about the sound within an exhibition space. For this poster, I wanted to create a tangible visualization of the abstract ideas covered in my dissertation. Since the dissertation starts with my own experiences in exhibition spaces, I decided to take a similar approach. So, I based this artifact on my real experiences in an art gallery, capturing both the sounds and sights from a specific exhibition I attended.
Using a bird’s-eye view, I divided the gallery space into rectangular sections, similar to architectural blueprints, to represent the clean and precise lines of white cube gallery spaces. To visualize sound, I started with either a black or white background and filled the space with simple geometric shapes inspired by the sound waves I experienced. Denser areas represent spaces with more sound, while no sections were left empty, reflecting that no space is ever truly 'silent.' The sound waves remind us of the constant presence of sound, illustrating the diverse audio experiences that accompany visual art and highlighting the dynamic and immersive nature of the gallery environment.
The goal of this poster was to provide a tangible representation of abstract concepts, encouraging viewers to engage with it through both visual and auditory perceptions.
